Where is
South Tyrol?

South Tyrol is
situated at the Southern side of the Alps in northern Italy, adjoining to
Austria
and
Switzerland. It unites the
advantages of mountain regions with peaks up to 4000 m
height and the amenities of a nearly mediterranean climate.
South Tyrol has approximately 485.000
inhabitants on a surface of 7.400 km², which
is about five times as big as
London. The
numerous museums, castles and traditional markets as well as
the amazing landscape are highly estimated both by the local
population and visitors.
A
remarkable fact about South Tyrol
is he relatively peaceful coexistence of three different
language groups. German speakers form a 70% majority and the
German language embosses the rural areas. Most of the
Italian speaking South Tyroleans
live in the bigger cities and represent about 25% of the
population as well as Italian vitality and Mediterranean
food. The Rhateo-Romanic speakers are a clear minority with
5% and live mostly in tha Gader and Grödner valleys in the
south-eastern parts of the region.
